Originally constructed for mountain biking, the trail is equally enjoyable on foot, with varied terrain ranging from gentle flats to significant climbs in the spectacular Assegaaibos Valley.

Olifantsnek Ascent
Distance: 14km
Duration: 3:30hrs
Elevation: 350m
Perched high above the southern side of the dam, this trail is a go-to for trail runners, hikers, and view seekers. Don’t be fooled by the distance-it’s up, up, up all the way to the top, followed by a fast descent. Tough on the legs, but the views are worth every step.

Forts Neck (Centre Peak Loop)
Distance: 22km
Duration: 6–8hrs
Elevation: 780m
A challenging mountain adventure featuring stream crossings, a small waterfall, steep climbs, and a historic stone fort perched above the southern side of the dam. Popular with trail runners, hikers, and those chasing epic views. Don’t let the distance fool you - it’s up, up, up before a rapid descent.
WARNING: Not suitable for beginners. Expect loose rocks, steep terrain, stream crossings, and long sections of climbing. Hiking poles and offline navigation are highly recommended.
